What types of apprenticeship are there?
Apprenticeship -Equivalent to 5 GCSE’s grades A-C
 
Can be based with an employer (employed) or with a learning provider with a work placement (non-employed).
 
“Programme Led Apprenticeships” are a type of non-employed apprenticeship where you spend more or all of your time with the provider at the start of your training before being placed with an employer.
 

NVQ Level 2*

Technical Certificates for some apprenticeships e.g. BTEC First, City and Guilds Level 2
 

Advanced Apprenticeship - Equivalent to 2 A’Levels

 
Employed only
NVQ Level 3*
Key Skills*
Technical Certificates e.g. BTEC National, City and Guilds Level 3
 
*Key Skills can include Communication, Application of Number, Information technology and Working with others. You will need to build a portfolio of evidence to show that you can apply these skills in the workplace.
 
This could include:
producing a letter if you work in an office
working out how much paint you need if you are a decorator
using a database in a warehouse
 
 
*NVQ stands for National Vocational Qualification. NVQs  are based on how well you do your job and making sure you reach national standards, whether you are laying bricks, answering the telephone, or serving customers. You will be visited in the workplace by an assessor from the learning provider. They will set you practical assignments, ask you questions about your job and see how you do your work.
